I just upgraded to 9.04, and immediately ran into an X problem when rebooting.

I just get a blank screen, with a half inch square of random colors, which appears to be the "cursor".

I'm using the Catalyst drivers, and my full /var/log/Xorg.0.log file is at the end of this message

In particular, I noticed these sections:

How did you upgrade? What version where you upgrading from? And did you have a working ATI driver for your ATI Radeon HD4670 card before upgrading? As far as I can remember we were advised to uninstall any ATI drivers before upgrading (I did not and it went very well). Did you get any prompt during upgrade telling that your card wasn't supported?

Boot into safemode and uninstall the driver --> Reboot --> then install the necessary driver if available and if in need.

I did that, but I still have problems: now after I login, I don't see window borders, can't open my KDE menu, and pretty much can't do anything except open a full-screen file-manager (Dolphin) window and navigate around.

I did the following: rebooted, then entered safe mode and did this:


cd /usr/share/ati
sudo sh ./fglrx-uninstall.sh
