New PC & Upgrade Advice Needed

Hi,

First off I'd like to say hi...this is my first post and certainly not my last....but an into isn't why I'm here :)

I just got a new PC (actually, the parts..I didn't put it together yet). I'm looking for a bit of advice: Should I try it with 9.04? My concern is mixing hardware-related issues with software-related ones. On top of that, I was thinking of using ext4 so I don't have to update later. This is also my first PC build, so I'm in for a barrage of new things this weekend. I've been using Ubuntu/Kubuntu for a few months now, so I know my way around Linux. How likely is a new build to at least setup/login with no fixes? Too much at once?

Also....is it possible to dual-boot Windows/Linux and access that same windows setup through VMWare? I'd rather not have to install Windows twice (or even at all...)

Well, this in only my second post. But I'm working through some of the same issues as you.

I'd say go ahead and install 9.04 on the new box. You could check this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=361236 to see if other users have had success with your hardware.

Anytime I add new hardware or replace something I hold my breath that everything is found properly. But then...I did that using Windows too. I don't think it matters what you use, if it's built right. There are some driver issues for some graphics cards and wireless, but you could search the forums for those specifics also to make sure there are no known issues with yours.


I'll leave the ext4 and dual boot/vm questions to someone else and listen in on the answer.
