That's the topic of some serious controversy. Lets tone it down a bit. I'm not trying to get my thread locked.

As for those sarnies, brown wholegrain bread and crunchy is best.
Absolutely no jelly. Not ever.

A peanut with no ayes, in the same way that a fsh is a fish with no eyes.

Bingo we have a winner!
Who'd put jelly on a peanut butter sandwich? I wouldn't even put jam on it.

A PB&J starts with 2 slices of flat bread. The one that stays flat the moment it becomes a sandwich is the bottom. If you flip it, you are then eating the sandwich upside down.

Speaking of edit...

Hey, it's not my fault they don't let you edit those things

And peanut butter and jelly is all about have the right amounts of each ingredient, not which side they fall on.

Now if this was a discussion about where to put the condiment on a sandwich, I would say on the bread, while some like it between the meat and cheese.

What if you have to flat pieces of bread and apply peanut butter to one side and jelly to the other, then pick up both halves and put them together?
I think someone should just establish that either the peanut butter side is up or the jelly side is up. Since it is called a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with peanut butter coming first in the name, I vote that that side be established as the bottom.

I shall not consider myself a frequent eater of such delectables, however from rare sightings of the afore-mentioned dish I discern it to constitute quite an icky mess to attempt applying the estery butter untop the friction-less jelly.:-\"

Where is the "Both" option?

I like my peanut butter nestled in between two squishy layers of jelly.

(It takes a lot of practice in order to be able to spread peanut butter onto jelly...)

"Both" would mean eating the sandwich at a 90 degree rotation around the axis perpendicular to your mouth compared to normal modus operandi.

What's the deal with one thing ontop another? Just turn the bugger around and see what floats your boat :) It's a sandwich. no?

Peanut Butter goes on bottom. Otherwise the jelly may soak through the bread.

No jelly, but a peanut butter and banana sandwich with some honey...mmm... that's my kind of sandwich.

You can also fry it up in some butter like a grilled cheese; just like Elvis' mom used to make(really).

as soon as you decide to look at your sandwich to measure whether its on the top or bottom, your will to observe flips the sandwich over a random number of times, in the instant before your eyes make contact with it. as such, there is really no way to know.

(p.s. it's sandwich, not sandwhich or sandwitch - and English is not even my native language... ;) )

Where's the option for those who think "jelly" refers to a dessert (no! NOT the Sahara!), and who would use "jam" with their peanut butter?

That reminds me: if your nose runs, and your feet smell, then there's the possibility that you're put together upside down.

1. Make a PB&J sandwich.
2. Drop it on the ground.
3. The side that it falls on is the top one, since according to the 34th law of Murphy, sandwiches fall on the their top side.
4. ???
5. Profit

Yes I think so. It's fruit preserves that jiggle on the spoon, like gelatin.
