So i've been using ubuntu for a while now, and wanted to clean install 9.04
I was under the impression that you can install it with the new ext4 file system, but when i completed the install i still have a ext3 partition (and swap of course)...

so did i do something wrong when installing, or do i have to install ext4 manually somehow?

Only a manual install allows you to choose ext4 - ext3 is the default. You have to choose ext4 specifically if you really want it. I've been using ext4 during testing of Jaunty but now seem to be stuck with unremoveable ext4 partitions high up in my partition numbering, preventing me from deleting these and any partitions below. I posted about this in the ext3 v ext4 thread so won't go into more detail here.
