I can't get it to work either..

Even file at http://wubi-installer.org/ doesn't work.

It says cancel, retry, continue.

Not really happy considering that I need this to work for my girlfirend's MP3 player.

Ditto with the "cancel retry continue" stuff trying Wubi on XP SP3 - I ended up putting Ubuntu in its own partition on that machine.

Seems to be some kind of bug. Has anyone checked this out at launchpad yet?

This is probably due to non-ascii chars in the volume (other issues reported involve non-ascii chars in windows user name or home path).
Please see: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/wubi/+bug/364600

There is an updated version of Wubi (version 129) available at:

http://releases.ubuntu.com/jaunty/wubi.exe

That works OK for me.

Given that this problem has been addressed, and that the trouble with the absence of persistent storage in USB disks generated with USB startup disk creator has been widely reported, I hope that an appropriate update will be forthcoming soon. Maybe 9.04 was pushed out a few days too soon.

In fairness, once the installation hurdles are past, 9.04 is a Good Thing.

I used the old version of ubuntu(8.10)and installed wubi by using its iso and then I upgraded ubuntu 8.10 to ubuntu 9.04.

Everything seems to be fine now. :P

I am experiencing the same problem too on Windows SP3. Wubi simply does not start (even using the latest build). Any alternatives?
