So I've been dealing this for a while. I have an HP Pavilion 6500 notebook with an NVidia 8400 GS graphics card in it.

The problem is every time I restart the monitor goes to some default 800x600 resolution. I have tried to fix this with reinstall the the drivers and installing Xserver...which is sort of the work around allowing me to reset it after the OS boots. This was a problem on 8.10 and is a problem on 9.04 now that I have upgraded. I'd like to know definitively how to solve the problem and by that I mean that the monitor boots in 1200x800, the best resolution for the monitor (and I assume it is native). Surprisingly, this worked on 8.04 when I had it, but I think it was only the 32 bit version as that was what I was running (as opposed to the 64 bit which I currently run).

I've searched through a lot of forums already and though I had the answer several times, but I have not been able to solve the problem. If, however, you can point me to the right spot I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance.
