Problem when try to remove MySQL

Hi, I'm trying to remove mysql from my machine. Ubuntu 8.4 AMD64.
after exec this command:
sudo aptitude --purge remove mysql-server-5.0 mysql-server
I have this output

And mysql seems don't want to be removed.

It looks like Mysql will not fully stop. Try to stop mysql before running the purge. You could disable from starting at bootup then reboot and try the operation again.

yes, if I try to stop the mysql daemon before execute this command, I receive the output that the deamon was stoped:
/etc/init.d/mysql stop
