I've just upgraded my Ubuntu system to 9.04 from Intrepid Ibex.

It worked fine for a short while, but when I tried to run a video the system 'crashed' (black screen, no activity, but power still on). After a while I powered off the system using the power button on my laptop.

When I attemted to reboot Ubuntu I recieved 'Error 15' 'File is missing' and the system stops there. I can use Grub but nothing else.

Please help!

Regards

Paul

Some further info.

I can access the Ubuntu partition ok from Vista.

So I would be able to copy a file into it if I knew which file and where

I also have a broken system after upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04
Booted up first time okay. Tried to run video file from VLC and video was choppy and smeary. Installed video driver for ATI 4870 from the menu (Hardware Drivers). Installed okay, and I got the limp windows effect working. Ran video, still choppy and No Sound.
Decided to try lower number of kernel. Could not boot into Ubuntu ever again. Recovery mode run on all kernels. Repaired packages, and tried to repair graphics. Totally buggered screen, and no load. How do I go back?? or do I have to wipe and reinstall from scratch? Help. I have a lot of stuff on the drives.
This is the kind of thing that prevents Linux from being more widely adopted.
