I've got an older Dell Inspiron 1100 that I recently upgraded the hard drive, memory and reloaded the primary OS (WinXP Home) on. After doing all that I thought it would be cool to try out Ubuntu by using the Wubi installer. I have a Celeron 2.0 processor, 80 gb hard drive and 1.5 gbs of memory. The wubi installer ran its course without throwing out any errors and then got to the end and told me to reboot. After doing so the log in screen came up and I put in my credentials. However the only thing it does after that is go to a blank / off-white screen where I can see the mouse pointer and just sits there. I uninstalled and went through the entire process again (with wubi ubuntu, choosing to use 10gb of my HD) and it did the exact same thing to me. I'm bummed because I want to try linux and this seemed to be the best starting point for me. Anyone have any ideas what I might do from this point with the wubi installer? Or is it a lost cause for the hardware that I have? Thanks
