View Full Version : Linux and phone controll system

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone on here knew anything about or could point me in the direction of some linux software that has the ability of controlling phone calls made from landline or mobile phones.

Im not even sure what type of system this is called but i assume that it can be done with some flavor of linux somewhere. What I want is a basic phone answering service that can accept inputs from the user in terms of key presses made on a handset. This could then cause the server to select some sample from a database and play that sample back to the user.

The service would also be able to receive and send texts such as the 86*** text services. Although this is not as critical as the first idea.

What type of service is this? Are there any current providers? What are the pitfalls? Is something freely available that I can trial?

Thanks in advance

Have a look at Asterisk (http:///www.asterisk.org/), it is a full distro of it's own.
