Hello everybody,

I need help from Ubuntu expert.

i have installed Internet Download Manager (IDM) into my Ubuntu. It works. BUT... it cannot successfully integrated with Mozilla Firefox. Normally, if u right click on any link that u want to donwload, there will be an option, to download the file with IDM. now it doesnt work as it suppose to. Any suggestion on how to resolve it?

If it's not possible to me to use this software, is there any alternative from ubuntu or maybe from other sources, where i can get such a very beneficial software like IDM? it's because, with IDM, i can donwload 10 times faster than usual connection on my vista!

I really want to use this software! :D

TQVM!!!

I recommend Flashgot in Firefox, and set it to use Kget. Very effective. If you want a download accelerator, the only one I found is Axcel, which is command line & not very friendly to the beginner.

Two questions here:

First of all, how was IDM used with Ubuntu? Wine?

Secondly,

I recommend Flashgot in Firefox, and set it to use Kget. Very effective. If you want a download accelerator, the only one I found is Axcel, which is command line & not very friendly to the beginner.

Steve
And how would that be done?

Sorry, I am a newbie with Linux OS'es (just did a complete install for Ubuntu Jaunty 64 for the first time), so if possible, as detailed as possible a reply would go a long way for me :)

Much appreciated.

I use a combination of Jdownloader (just built for Linux), https://launchpad.net/~jd-team/+archive/jdownloader (https://launchpad.net/%7Ejd-team/+archive/jdownloader)

and the firefox add-on flashgot....works really great with each other...best download manager out there IMO....

now i am testing Uget.:)

uget +1
(http://urlget.sourceforge.net/)

It now supports Aria2 plugin meaning that it is able to make multi-segment downloads! uget is a fully functional GTK download manager with graphical interface, it has its own downloader based on curl, but supports aria2 plugin as well. and unlike other aria2 frontends, the uget also supports some basic command line control itself.

The author is busy working on the next version support Ubuntu indicators for Natty! See: https://launchpad.net/~plushuang-tw

Download deb files here:

i386
https://launchpad.net/~ferramroberto/+archive/maverick/+files/uget_1.7.2-1~lffl~maverick~ppa_i386.deb

amd64
https://launchpad.net/~ferramroberto/+archive/maverick/+files/uget_1.7.2-1~lffl~maverick~ppa_amd64.deb

*** Note *** For Ubuntu 10.10 users, please upgrade Aria2 to v1.10.9+ : https://launchpad.net/~t-tujikawa/+archive/ppa/+buildjob/2157226 or the aria2 plugin may crash! although the default curl plugin should work anyway...

The uget's default download plugin is curl, If you want to use aria2 as the default downloader, You will have to manually enable the aria2 plugin after installation:

uget is already supported by the flashgot extension of Firefox.

For Google Chrome, it is recommended to use the latest "Chrome Download Assistant" - a flashgot equivalent extension provided by Google:

Hi Dear,

I am suggest some simple step for integration or IDM with Firefox

1. Please make sure that you have installed the latest version of IDM by using Help->Quick Update menu item. Please use "Help->Quick Update" IDM main menu item to get the latest version of IDM.

2. Don't forget to turn on the corresponding checkbox for browsers that you use in IDM Options -> General tab.

3. It's possible that you need to update IDM extension for Firefox. Pick "Tools->Add-ons" menu item in Firefox. Add-ons dialog should open. Click on "Extensions" tab and find IDM CC (Internet Download Manager integration module for Mozilla):

3. A. If "Uninstall" button is available (like on the picture above), press this button and confirm reinstallation. Then close and restart Firefox browser. On next start, Firefox will find and install the latest version of IDM CC extension automatically using system registry. That's all.

3. B. If "Uninstall" button is not unavailable and if you are using the latest version of IDM and the integration does not work, it's possible that you use an old version of IDM extension. In this case open this web-page in Firefox browser that you need IDM to be integrated to, then press install button:
