Hi all.
What's the matter with Ubuntu not loading my personal desktop when I log in?
The desktop just comes empty, programs will load but no wallpaper, no desktop icons, nothing. I always have to restart X to get it working on the 2nd or 3rd attempt.
It happens regardless of Compiz running or not.
Ubuntu 8.10 here.
Any ideas?

same prob.
Installed ubuntu 8.10 a few hours ago and the screen set up with all the icons, etc, but cannot interact.Just freezes.
Restart in safe mode and found that it was running on low resolution.
A screen mess. came up that said does it want to increase the screen resolution,if so agree, which i did.
Soit tried to fix it in safe mode but just nothing happened, left it for a few hours,no change, and said that could not get new drivers for the Prosavage card
Still the same!
Any suggestions or Help?
G

Do we have the same problem?
You seem to be having configuration issues, if I understood correctly...

Yes Murry,
After much reading it seemes that a driver is needed for the graffics card because of the screen being in low resolution.
Looked everywhere and started to lose the plot!
So,down loaded the iso's for Ubuntu 8.04,8.10 and got a prerelease for 9.04.
Still had the same probs with the 8.10 so loaded the new 9.04 and have had no probs. at all so far anyway.
Anyway, another learning experience.
Hope this helps
