I just installed Ubuntu Jaunty on an HP Pavillion dv9700 as a dual boot with Windows XP. I was expecting to have a few problems since I installed Jaunty a bit early, and since I knew that there were problems on previous releases with the wireless card. But I'd read that Jaunty supported the HP's Atheros wireless card, so I installed it. Well, the wireless doesn't work. I've activated the driver through System>Administration>Hardware Drivers, but I've got nothing. It acts like the wireless switch is turned off. Can anyone tell me how to fix this??

My struggles with the Atheros card in my wife's laptop led me to stop pestering her about moving to Linux, which is to say that I completely understand your frustration.

This is a link to one of dozens of tutorials about this on the web (many are out of date). This method seemed simplest to me:

I'm not sure how to get any of the tutorials to work with out the internet to start with because it's a new install and I need to run the update manager first. I was really hoping that Jaunty would have fixed this problem... Any other thoughts?
