Hello everyone,

A few friends of mine, who are Mac enthusiasts, showed me Apple's Boot Camp. Their explanation was rather vague but from what I can tell Boot Camp is nothing more than an app to dual-boot Windows on a Mac, am I right about that? Or is it like a virtualization software package?

When they showed it to me they gave me the impression that it is some kind of revolutionary new piece of programming. So I'm a bit confused. I mean GRUB does exactly the same thing, right?

Thanks in advance :)

Yeah thanks, of course I already did a Google search, and the Apple website and Wikipedia etc etc. If I got a clear answer i would not have started a new thread.

it's pretty much just a way to dual boot on macs. so yes, it is pretty much the same as grub but it also does the work for you to install

Boot Camp is three things:

1. A partitioner
2. A set of drivers for Windows
3. A utility that patches your iEFI to include features that Apple had disabled in their machines.

It was possible to run Windows on the Macintosh before Boot Camp was released - in fact it looks like Apple released it in response to the hackers who got it working on their own.

I was looking at their website about the information they had about boot camp and it is indeed a lot of ********. This sort of stuff has existed for a very long time and mainly Linux users use it. However on their website you can read that its the greatest thing on earth and only possible through the power of Mac... the funny thing is that Mac users are generally very ignorant of anything to do with computers and believe these things.
