Ok. After the whole mess of the Windows driver that I posted about over the last few days, I just reinstalled Ubuntu to a completely fresh 8.04 Ubuntu Studio.

My wireless is now WORKING and detected.

My problem is that I don't know how to scan for networks and connect to them, and also create a local network.

Can anyone give me a good walkthrough?

Edit; Also, because I'm on Ubuntu Studio, I don't have a network icon in the top right next to the date/time. The only icon there is trash on the far right.

I would suggest you install wicd, it is in the Jaunty repositories, but you are running Intrepid, so you will have to go here (http://wicd.sourceforge.net/download.php) to get it.

I'm on Hardy Heron, actually. 8.04. Will that same link work?

Edit; Never mind - I got it set up.

I'm only having one issue. When I started an ad-hoc network, I was unable to connect to it with the computer, but I was able to connect to it with my iPod Touch by specifying the name. The computer would try to connect, but get stuck at "Acquiring IP address." I tried to set a static IP, but I was unable to, due to not knowing what to set for the DNS.

Any suggestions for fixing that?
