Creative X-Fi support is limited and not very stable. The best option is to install OSS in place of ALSA. Not a job for a beginner, however a quick Google will lead you to instructions.

They are working on it, but not in near future.

I got so frustrated with Creative I jumped ship and bought an MAudio card.

Sorry, but the news is not good for now.

This is a pity.

I try out every new Ubuntu release, but the no go on the Creative X-Fi sound cards issue means I have to keep returning to Windows to do gaming with any fidelity.

By the time Linux/ALSA supports it, will we have a new bus architecture, with a new card? Hope not :)
