I'm a total computer geek and I know a lot of you are too :D and I'm sure some of you have names for your comuter(s). My SR1000 is Iris and my ProLiant is Emery. What's yours?

EDIT: Yes, I know that this thread has probably been done before; however, as I usually do before creating a thread, I searched for it and could not find it.

For a while I based my computer names around "aspie" e.g. old-aspie, a100-aspie and similar.

Why, do your computers have Asperger's?

I used to name my hard disks after my pets, but since moving to Linux I haven't given my hard disks any names. My computer's are named:

chris-desktop
chris-netbook
linux-mint (that's my father's).

It's a surprisingly effective naming scheme.

There must be loads of threads in the forums about what people call their computers.

My computer is an inanimate object, and therefore does not have a name.

I change the source for my names from time to time.

nexus - firewall
christine - server - Phantom of the Opera
rachael - currently MythTV box - Blade Runner

Last time I renamed all the rest I was watching a bunch of "witch" shows - Witch Hunter Robin, Harry Potter, Charmed, etc...

robin - main system
piper - laptop
tonks - the always-messed-up testbed machine
kiki - another laptop

The most recent additions:

daria - fanless PC on my off-grid power system
eee - Eee PC and I wasn't feeling particularly creative at the time... ;)

I usually just call it something boring like xfce-ubuntu-box (current), though on my next install, I'm considering Secundo (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7e/Beyond_Good_and_Evil_-_Jade_and_Secundo.jpg).

I really like that game.

My XP desktop is called StalkerII, as I call it the Phantom Stalker II. It replaced the Phantom Stalker which was destroyed in a house fire.

My Hardy firewall box (an old Dell Pentium III Optiplex) is called Zuul, after the Gatekeeper in Ghostbusters.

My laptop is called Athena, named after one of my cats.

My MythTV box is named, appropriately, mythtv.

My Intrepid file server is named Quattro, because it has a quad core CPU. And I drive an Audi. ;)

My VMs have less original names, like XP-VM. The VM running Jaunty is called jaunty-beta.

Specs in French, but I think you get the idea. ;) The white MacBook I'm getting soon will be called Yukiko (雪子) meaning "snow child".

I think I'll rename two of them to Wakaba and Aoba sometime, prolly when I'll move up to Paris in a few months.

My Thinkpad T61 is called 'monolith' because, well, it looks just like the monolith in 2001.

My netbook is called 'lil' because it's lil.

Everything else is somewhat arbitrarily named.

I just call my computer ubuntu. Never really thought of naming it.....

I've come up with naming schemes for all my computers.

The three Linux boxen running now are Rockhopper (a home-built, kick-awesome desktop tower), Adelie (my old Web server of unknown origin), and Macaroni (an old Dell Inspiron laptop). All the Linux boxen are named after species of penguin. I'm getting a new home server, too, and it will be named Emperor.

My Mac computers are mostly named after Homestar Runner references. The first, an iMac G5, is named Monosodium Dreams, after The Cheat's computer. The second, a Power Mac G4, is named Laser Lemon, because it had no hard drive when we got it. The third, Lappy G386, and fourth, Happy 8600, are named after Strong Bad and Homestar's laptops, respectively. Since I wasn't around when the fifth, a MacBook Pro, was set up, it's just called "macbook".

The Windows computers all have unimaginative names, like marty-d810 or cel-d-2800 ("Celdy" for short). If I get any more, I'm naming them after video game villains (e.g. Bowser, Ganondorf...)

I'm starting to experiment with virtual machines, so I'll name those after programs in Tron (e.g. Tron, Clu, Flynn, Sark...)

250 GB external HDD- Enzo

Why, do your computers have Asperger's
Probably. Or they will if I manage to make a chatbot along those lines. Don't hold your breath waiting though.
