View Full Version : [all variants] Looking for Cheap 2.5" IDE Laptop Hard Drive

I got Xubuntu successfully installed on an HP Pavilion N5415. The hard drive was noisy so I didn't expect much but last night it died with an amazing set of noises.

The hard drive is hidden inside and a 2.5" form factor. The installed one was a Seagate Momentus ST92011A 20GB. I'd be happy with one in that size or larger. I just want cheap. The best price I've found is $45 for this and back-ordered. Other alternatives start around $60 and go up. I'm not sure if I want to drop the money on this old PC.

It's a shame it isn't 3.5" since old versions of this are really cheap.

probably the best prices you will find with a company that stands behind it's sales.

or you can try www.pricewatch.com and see what you can find.

Maybe you live near a Fry's store??

Other than that, don't know much else where "cheap" comes to mind. :)

It is a cheap laptop: big, heavy, old & slow by current standards. It also has a dead battery. At some point it isn't worth it. I got it for free so I was happy with the deal. A new drive, battery & wifi add up. They have brand new laptops under $300. I llike some of those SSD tiny ones with Linux already installed.
