Sorry if this is too basic, but I have been trying.
I have a Dell PowerEdge 1800 with dual Xeon 3.0 GHz processors and 3x75 Gb disks configured in RAID 5 on which I am trying to install a Ubuntu Server 8.10. The server has been happily running Windows Server 2003, but we no longer need this application.
I have tried downloading and installing both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions and have tried various ways of configuring the disks, but all I ever achieve is Operating System Failure. When I tried to load Ubuntu alongside windows I didn't get the expected boot screen allowing me to choose between operating systems - no idea why.
I'm afraid my experience with Linux is limited to that you read above. I was hoping to make use of the Dell machine using OpenSSH and Rsync to provide off site backup support to our other windows servers.
Can anyone help?
