View Full Version : [ubuntu] Upgrade to 8.10 from 8.04: Good Idea or Bad Idea?

I am thinking about upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid; but, I am worried about possible loss of functionality. Specifically, NVIDA GEForce, Atheros WLAN, and on board card readers. I also don't want to spend too much time reconfiguring installed software: Wine, ePSXe, MATLAB ...

So, I would like to know if it is worth it to make the upgrade; or if it is more trouble than its worth?

I personally found it a lot more trouble than it's worth - my nVidia drivers got screwed up. Jaunty's the same - I'm thinking of going back to Hardy.

Intrepid's ugly, too. The GDM Login screen is BROWN! :O

For my system, Hardy rocked. Intrepid, not so much. Jaunty is the best thing since Hardy, IMO. I'd suggest you get a daily build LiveCD and try it on for size.

Can't address the configuration issues since I have no idea what you have configured or how long it would take you to reconfigure what you have, etc.

Daily Build CD's are here though if you want to give Jaunty a little spin...

@ MrStill

If you are satisfied how your Hardy works there is no reason to upgrade.
