I was thinking about when I was younger and how much fun tamagotchi's were (for a while) I've always enjoyed things like that, like the game Black and White, you get to raise your creature, feed him stroke him hit him etc etc.

If someone (maybe me if i ever learn graphical programming) made a pet raising desktop creature thingy type program would you use it?

I'd play with a terminal-based one :)

yup it could be pretty sweet, maybe it could be also useful like correcting spelling or somethin... though if you think about it you dont wanna make another Office Pin ;)

Yeah, i wouldnt want it to be intrusive, just fun and funny, have it pop out of an egg at birth and then grow and play games with you etc.

I think il have to look into this some more then, thought it was just be who would have found this fun, obviously not :)

Could be done quite simply, the main problem would be ncurses + ascii art for the creature

I once lived in a share house. I shared with two male friends and one of their girlfriends. The girlfriend had a tamagotchi. She went away for the weekend and left it for us to look after. So we locked it in a draw and starved it, over medicated and generally abused it. Once it was dead, we part boiled it in salt water and it still worked, sort off. So then we deep fried it. We videoed the whole experience and played it back to her. We gave her the money to buy a new one. She actually threatend to report us to the RSPCA.:D
