Hello everyone,

I tried yesterday to install Jaunty beta, from scratch, with the i386 desktop install CD.

Overview of the problem: the boot from the LiveCD hangs quite early, it resumes normally if I press Ctrl+Alt+Suppr, and install without any hitch.
Once installed, the boot from the harddisk hangs more or less at the same time, I can resume it as well with Ctrl+Alt+Suppr, but gdm won't start, complaining about "daemon/ServAuthDir not belonging to user 105 and group 111".

Now for the details:
* Hardware: ASUS A7J notebook (Intel Duo Core)
Since I'm not really sure what is relevant here, you can find the complete hardware report: http://skadge.free.fr/log/hd_report.xml

* During the LiveCD boot, I tried to kill the hanging process with Ctrl+C with no result. Only Ctrl+Alt+Suppr seemed to work. I could not notice any problem from the LiveCD (except, maybe, an error when starting gnome-terminal -> it wouldn't start).

dmesg output from the LiveCD: http://skadge.free.fr/log/dmesg

* From the harddisk: once I resumed the boot sequence until GDM error, I was able to switch to another tty, and the problem seems to boil down to the fact the file system is... read-only! I've no idea why. I've tried to install on freshly formatted partitions both in EXT3 and EXT4 with the same result.

I'm a bit stucked now, and some help would be really helpful!

Cheers,
Severin

Ok. It comes from the saa7134 module.

Cf https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/316405

A workaroud is to add

blacklist saa7134

to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
