They will probably charge $600+ for it.

I sure hope not, I e-mailed them about this and was told it was not far away (weeks not months) and I am holding out on pulling the trigger on a 1000HA to see what they offer.

I don't think they'll charge $600 for it, they have some very nice laptops (all of which out run my desktop) that only cost around $800, and a netbook wouldn't do too good if they charged alot for it, they whole point of a netbook is cheaper cost, I would expect around $300-$400 for it, and that's a conservative estimate.

Yeah but if you got that same hardware from HP it would be $350 cheaper

I'd guess some type of re-branded Asus netbook since their other computers are from Asus.

That would be fine with me, one of the computers we are interested in is the 10.1" Aspire One, I already own a 8.9" AO and I am very happy with it.

keep in mind that their nettop is $250 which is cheaper than most others... their netbook should be in the same boat.

I would wait for a 1000HE (if it is not out already where you are) 1000HE looks great.

That would be cool, except I don't see them selling a decent netbook for less 500 dollars. I have a 290$ 900HA Eeepc, if by any chance they offer a cheaper deal than Asustek, ill switch than. ( I hope they will use eeebuntu by deafult)

they will probably use the Ubuntu Netbook Remix (officially released installer as of jaunty)

I read the report and yes they will be using UNR for their netbook.

I was talking about $350 cheaper than the $800 S76 laptops. You can get a HP with the same specs for $450

Yeah System76 are kinda pricy, I wonder why since the specs aren't that awesome for $800

I think they are going to make a bad first impression, if they are going to charge (Lot's $$$ like system76 always does), at least the should ship it with a proper distro, not some User interface that looks a like a children's vg-tech pc.

I don't think they will if they want to compete with other netbooks, not every thing they sell is pricey, for example their desktops are priced very well, I think the laptops are more expensive because of all the customizations they do to it, like the ubuntu logo on the lid, and plus the labor for loading ubuntu on as well as multi-media codecs, plus they had to develop their own drivers for the finger print readers and web cams. So with all that, I think they are reasonably priced, not the cheapest in town, however you do get a quality product, and plus their sales went up 61% last year, they must be doing some thing right.

Amusing how very few actually want to support Ubuntu when it really comes down to it.

When you're comparing the system 76 laptops to the HP are you actually comparing equivalent models or do you just compare the budget HPs to the system 76? Sure you can't find anything that cheap from system 76 but the discrete gpu in the pangolin is much faster than the intel in the cheap HPs. If you're comparing the darter or gazelle then you pay extra for the portability, so compare it to a similarly sized hp model. I really doubt you'll find anything much cheaper.

Ironically, I had *just* asked if they were releasing a netbook about ... *looks through old forum posts* well it says one week ago. I was hoping for an ARM-based netbook, but I guess if it's only a few weeks away then that means it's just going to be another Atom based netbook.

Maybe I can still hope for a S76 ARM based netbook later this year? Maybe? Please?

I would love to see them carry the AMD neo platform. It has enough graphics performance to do 1080p and an hdmi out while being even smaller than the darter. Plus it has open drivers unlike the nvidia cards used in the higher end machines.

I'll have to read up on that one

Look at the dv2 from hp for specs. It's basically a single core proc twice the speed of the atoms with a 15 watt tdp. It also uses a 3410 discrete gpu with 512 mb ram for video decoding or light gaming. 12" screen and 2.5 hour battery life on full power weighing 4 lbs.

I'll buy it.

That might be the one I've been waiting for , Don't get me wrong they all make me happy in the pants but I like those guys over at 76.
