I'm trying to create multiple sessions so I can have a session for work and home on my laptop such that it restores my network/proxy settings. I was trying to add gnome sessions. There are several pages around claiming gnome-session-properties should have a create new session button in options, but there is not one in mine. Was hoping to find something in gconf-edit or something. Any ideas? Have multiple gnome sessions been disabled?

I don't think what you're looking for falls under "sessions" - those control what programs start on login. You could try the "Network Configuration" ("nm-connection-editor") or "Network Proxy" ("gnome-network-preferences") to see if that's what you want.
