Call HP. NVidia has had a fairly significant batch of video adapters for laptops that have overheated and even burned other equipment in the laptop. Don't go via web if you can as there the help for this issue is difficult to locate. HP (and Dell, too) has declared an extra warranty on those laptops affected by the bad NVidia chips. More details are available at

http://www.windowssecrets.com

In the top section "In our latest articles ..." is a link to

"Call to learn whether your HP or Dell is covered"

and in the second section "Recent headlines from past articles" is a link to

"HP and Dell balk at replacing bad NVidia chip".

From there you find a link to HP:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en

which is the program under which they supposedly handle the video chips but the page does not say so. That's among the reasons why you should call them up.

Cheers, Jochen
