Dual Boot problems

I have a Windows XP installed and every time i install ubuntu 8.10 It just does not start.

I have tried following the guide on recovering from windows install but still no luck every time it just load windows automatically.

One drive is SATA and the other is IDE.

HELP PLEASE.....

Have a look at this howto. I have basically the same setup and have used the howto with success several times.
