ok here i go
please don't shoot

is there any site where instead of giving text to find a picture (like google image search), you can give the picture and get the site where it came from?

remember, please don't shoot :)

i just though, if anyone knows of a way to find out where this image came from , he/she would be one of us :P (btw i'm searching for this one http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk206/iristella/bscap004-3.jpg :P)

:D:D:D

(i though of it by using fdupes, why couldn't something like that be used on something like google's servers where all those thumbnails are held? :P)

Short Answer: Yes.

Bad News : I don't remember where it was and I haven't seen the person who told me about it lately.

Actually it was a paid site where you give them your artwork and they would scan the internet to see if anybody is using your image without permission. It scanned by image not by filename which is easily modified.

If you are looking for something on your local system you can use the application imgseek which you can use a picture, text or draw on a canvas to search your library for the closest equivalent. Kinda fun, but so-so successful for me.

So I guess the short answer should be : Sort-of

paid site eh? even if that's the case, if you remember it, please tell me :) i might not need it for the artwork-searching thing but recognizing anime is just as important (if it's less than 10 euros a year or something like that, even though i seriously doubt it now that i think clearly :S)

These guys for example seem to do it. http://tineye.com/ You'll need a login there and they seem a bit clueless otherwise. You can try to see if there's a working login available at http://bugmenot.com

I wonder why google doesn't do this reverse image search.

ps. I don't see why it's such a silly question.

fwiw, I've used Tineye without creating an account. I think it's just optional for a few extra features.

Sorry for the off topic, one more post.

I just watched all episodes of deathnote yesterday, and it is all fresh. I created a wallpaper for my name. :D

L should have won I think. Some of the evidence was more than circumstantial. He lost because of a meddling, invincible shinigami, and the fact he was friends with kira.

L losing was ok (can't say i liked it though), but death note should have ended there.
i was using the regular L wallpaper for a while :P
