View Full Version : If ACTA get passed, automatic restricted ¨driver¨ installs? (even possible?)

Is this even possible, the way Linux is designed?
The governments of the world forcing Open Source Software to accept THEIR closed source malware as, ahem, restricted drivers?

Also, and I know that this sounds paranoid, but could a section in the VERY secret ACTA treaty be devoted to requiring internet organizations (profit and non-profit) to deliberately LIE to their followers and accept government-mandated malware? In other words, a license to deceive?
The privacy policy may say one thing, but the governments of the world secretly give the organizations immunity (much like the telecoms which we KNOW have immunity)!

Example: company CitizenFriendly Inc. privacy policy says "We do not collect information on you.", so you think everything´s great, but as a result of ACTA´s ratification, unfortunately they DO collect info on you (and give it to your government), only you don´t even know about it, but even if you did, they have IMMUNITY, so you can´t sue them, and probably would be subject to a gag order!

I personally think this treaty is not what it seems, if I go to a border crossing with my iPod full of rare cassettes and LPs (that aren´t on CD), how would I prove that they´re legal songs?? Carry a stack of LPs with me?? Or what about my CDs? Carry them too??
If this law seems unworkable, then I think that there are ulterior motives in play with this international treaty, or like Stallman said, they wouldn´t need to keep it secret!

Richard Stallman's comments at 1:10:
"We wouldn't like it if we knew.
They're trying to do policy-laundering.
Democracy gets bypassed and they can do to us whatever they want.
I can only guess that it's going to be nasty,
because if it weren't going to be nasty
they wouldn't need to keep it a secret."

Actually, technically, ripping CDs is illegal. (Just not enforced). So, ya, try to prove it to them that you ripped it off a cd or another medium, just so they can get you for that. :D

Well, just sitting around here and complaining about it isn't going to get anything done! Here's what you should do:

1) Remember that the Congress mid-term elections are coming up within the next couple years

2) Find the numbers of all your state congressman and representatives (Phone calls hold much more weight than an E-Mail)

3) Tell them that if they vote for such legislation, then you will not vote for them in the mid-term elections, this will get them in line if enough people phone in, because you are essentially saying that you will fire them. Also, tell them WHY it is bad, so that they can think about it a bit more themselves.

IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, THEN YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN WHEN SUCH LEGISLATION IS VOTED IN. IT IS TRULY AND UTTERLY YOUR FAULT WHEN THIS STUFF HAPPENS AND YOU DO NOT TELL YOUR LOCAL REPRESENTATIVE!

The representatives have close to 300 lobbyists toying with their minds per day, and with such distractions, imagine how hard it is to vote in good legislation that the people truly want!
