After installing upgrades today (4/15/09 to Ubuntu 8.10), my USB mouse stopped working. I realized that all USB devices are broken - thumb drives are not detected, but they were earlier today. The mouse and drive both work on other machines.
I also tried booting with an older kernel, thinking it may be a new kernel issue (which I'm not even sure was upgraded - how can I find out what was changed in my last upgrade?), but still the same problem.
Any advice on how to proceed? Where to look for errors? I looked at /var/log/messages but didn't see anything useful (to me).
This is a huge problem and should never happen. My Ubuntu box is useless right now. When I find out the solution I'd like to do whatever I can to make sure it doesn't happen again - it's things like this that make people cringe when they hear "Linux"
Thanks a lot!
