Well you can kiss compiz and any 3D games goodbye (since almost all 3D drivers are binary blobs). Also say goodbye to properly working flash. There's probably more that I can't think of. Plus anyone you show your system to will get the impression that Linux == crap.

Also, look forward to more stability and less crashes.
I rarely crashed on FreeBSD and also rarely crashed on Ubuntu with the open ATI drivers.
With the NVidia drivers however, I've experienced a lot of instability which I can only attribute to them.
And lets not even talk about ATI's blobs which are even worse.

When on FreeBSD I used Gnash and played with swfdec.
These projects have improved but they still probably won't work with for all flash sites.
Really, I only used flash for the occasional Youtube video and Gnash seemed to work well enough for that purpose.
I might even have preferred Gnash to the proprietary flash when it worked well.
It has also improved since then.

Really, my experience is that there are only a few gaps and they are closing.
However, if you want the best 3D support at the risk of having to do an occasional hard reboot you'll probably miss the NVidia/ATI blobs.
