This forum was established to promote programming and provide a vehicle for the Ubuntu Community to share and teach programming techniques. We recognize and greatly appreciate the depth of knowledge within the Programming Talk Community, however we feel the information is sometimes lost due to poor communication strategies as outlined below.

Elitism. Elitist attitudes are contrary to both the FSF philosophy (http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html) and the Ubuntu Forums Code of Conduct.

Disrespectful attitudes. We would like the community to be mindful of the Ubuntu Forums Code of Conduct and we ask posts to remain respectful even when disagreeing.

Recurring discussions. It seems the PT community has acquired a unique set of recurring discussions. These recurring discussions detract from these forums and are counter productive. Please keep the discussions on topic; Staff will move to the Recurring Discussions (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=302) section of these forums such off topic opinions and banter.

Agendas. It seems we all have our favorite programming language(s). While there is nothing wrong with having a preference, please do not use these forums to push your preferences on others. As an example :

Preferred behavior:

Q: I am new to programming and/or language Y, how do I do X in language Y?
A: You need to do D, E, F ... but be careful because of G.
Q: I tried and just can't accomplish what I want ... I want to do Z.
A: Oh, why don't you try looking at language M, it should be easier for you to pick and accomplish Z.

Unacceptable behavior:

Q: I am new to programming and/or language Y, how do I do X in language Y?
A: You are a noob, learn language Z instead as it will not need you to think about X.

Please remember to report posts/threads that appear to need the attention of the staff.

Thank you from the Ubuntu Forums Staff.
