no offense, but i find that laughable. desmume is a native linux NDS emulator and is even better imo.

Will desmume run the same files that no$gba can? I also have downloaded desmume but when I click on it it won't open? Anything I'm missing?

Hate to have to point it out, but piracy i.e. downloading roms from torrents is likely piracy & not generally condoned here.

Downloading rom's could well be piracy and wouldn't be condoned and will lead to thread closure. At the moment the thread is still only discussing no$gba and desmume.
Let's make sure it stays that way please.

dude, what're you smoking? desmume guys are doing a great job, but it's still featureless, buggy like hell, and compatibility is low. it can't even compare to no$gba... yet. progress is noticeable, but they still have a long ways to go. iDeaS is the best ds emulator for linux, often better than no$gba. (http://www.ideasemu.org/) my only gripe with it is the sound plugin. it's tough to get it working nicely.

no$gba has run every game that I have thrown at it so far (not sure if I should mention titles?). A funny thing is, it seems to run smoother under Wine than in Windows, its native OS. lol
I've tried almost all other DS emus including ideas, but they all seem to have sound problems, on every OS I've played them upon.

1. has enough features for me.
2. is not buggy for me (although it had been in the past, you may want to try it again).
3. i have been able to play every game fine with it.

I would have recommend no$gba here.
It is Windows native, but runs perfectly under Wine. I haven't tried any other nds emulators on Ubuntu, so I would have to recommend it all the way.
Every game I've thrown at it runs decently, if not good.

same exact advice here in the same exact situation with other apps:
start it from console/terminal & post the output here.
on another note, i installed ideas here on opensuse 11.1 and i have to say it is nice. i haven't tested it extensively though.
i wish i could find a NDS emulator with a Qt4 gui or frontend...

i've only tried out one rom in desume and it was buggy :C i'll have to try out nocash through wine i guess.
btw: you can dump your own roms legally into your computer

there's also homebrew stuff like nethackds, though NO$GBA doesn't offer DLDI emulation so like 99% of good homebrew games won't work on it :( which is ironic since NO$GBA was developed for the developer in mind.

Ive always used NO$GBA on windows before but I'm just thinking of using native Linux applications at the moment. So yeah I have not installed Wine yet. Thanks disturbedite got ideas and it worked perfectly for me.

Ive tried Ideas and it worked but the resolution is quite small and Ive tried looking for the settings that would allow me to change the size but it seems it doesnt have that feature. Also when I would try to move it to the center the bottom part of it would stay in the side and would not move. options/rotation & zoom. the window stays in the middle because of some conflict with compiz, it seems. turn it off.

I was looking for "compiz-switch" in synaptic but failed to find it. Any other ideas so I can easily turn compiz on/off?

sure. turn off visual effects in System/Preferences/Appearance, or use fusion-icon: apt://fusion-icon.

I'll have to agree with no$gba using WINE...
I mean yeah, it's fine to say your emulator of choice works... but it's also too convenient if you're only running a handful of things or just happen to be using the ones that work (or are just plain lucky that it works on your setup)
I tried many different native versions of iDeaS and DeSmuME... and so far nothing I wanted would work right at all, until I tried no$gba which has run everything FLAWLESSLY so far, and faster also. The fact that it runs at optimal performance even in WINE while the other native ones lag and have graphical/sound glitches should say something.

When I was writing this article (http://www.blastfromthepast.se/blabbermouth/2009/04/console-emulation-in-linux-part-1-nintendo-family/) about console emulation in Linux I tried DeSmuME, and it was working beautifully for me. Some sound stuttering in some games, yes. But that was the extent of my problems with it. But I'm glad no$gba works for you. :)

I had a problem with desemu too,
You have to launch it from the terminal with something like
desemu --disable 3d
Note: I know the command is wrong, look it up in the man page for desemu for the right way to type this option

desemu --disable 3d
of course, that blows away 99% of DS games worth playing.

I have tried the 3 emulators under wine here is my experience.
no$gba under wine: works with a lag I have to skipframes to make the game faster.
ideas1032 under wine: same as nosgba but faster but still have a lag.
DeSmuME: The worst one the game works very very slow and there is no options to play with to make the game better.
any suggestion to make the game work faster I am trying to play super mario bros

The DS is still a commercially viable console, it is unlickly that emulation will become good until after Nintendo release there next hand-held,and if it does the emulater in question would lickly be shut down by Nintendo as it would be a profit loss for them.
If you want to play DS games, Buy a DS;) new or second hand.

As far i know,if you write an emulator with your own codes (and not with codes from Nintendo)you are legally right.

That's true, though ROMs are protected by copyright and can't be legally shared. The idea of emulators is to maintain usability of older software that you own by emulating the hardware it was designed to run on. It's totally legit, though a bit strange, to buy DS games, extract the ROMs from the cartridges and run them on an emulated system if you choose to do so. Most people would tend to just run the cartridges directly if suitable hardware is readily available.
I have no stake in what other people do one way or another. I'm simply pointing out that emulation has totally legitimate uses. The questionable part is in the distribution of ROMs. Carry on.

I want to but it isn't sold in my country and If I buy one online the Games aren't sold here.So I guess I will have to stick with emulation till Nintendo brings DS to India.
