Ok,

I think we all now know that the 8.10 installer has a graphical error when selecting 'guided - use largest continuous free space. which causes some confusion, but works.

My son wanted to install Ubuntu.
However, it cannot recognize the 159gb of free space on his drive.
He has a 750gb hard drive.

Specs:
Asus M2N32N-SLI Motherboard
Amd x2 6000+ processor.
2gb ram
geForce 8800
750GB hard drive (WD I think)

Windows XP is using the first 500+GB or so.

When I was not offered to use free space I selected manual.
The manual screen could not find any free space.

I am not a noob to Linux so you don't have to babysit me through this.
I just spent 3 years in a work environment supporting every copy of Linux out there. I am also tired and neither of us have time left tonight to dig deeper on this. I guess pulling up a terminal and using fdisk is next.
Recommendations? BIOS upgrade? Maybe?
