Okay, I tried running update-manager -d to update to 9.04 beta. It acted like it was working...but when it got to the installation stage, everything crashed and dropped me to a plain black screen. Now whenever I reboot, it drops me to a shell. startx reports that fglrx isn't found, no drivers found. Help!

download the iso of jaunty, burn to cd and boot to cd. somewhere in the liveCD you can continue the upgrade process, leaving off where you crashed. it'll fix everything.

mine froze when i initially updated to jaunty. it was during the package installation process, and when i rebooted i was left with a very basic debian desktop. i rebooted to OS X, downloaded the cd, and rebooted. the cd gave me the option of fixing my broken upgrade, and after it ran everything was fine.
