Ok, newb here...I just picked up a old Compaq Desktop Pro with no OS. I have been back to the shop twice where I purchased it due to a bad hdd and dead bios battery. Now that I have that sorted out I need some help installing ubuntu 8.10. I burned a live CD, and couldn't get it to load. I then burned and alternative CD and can't get that to load either. I have set the computer to boot from CD...My system has 256mb ram and I think it is a celeron 566mhz, but on the casing it says 866. The hard drive is a 10gig. I just want something to play around with Ubuntu. I am happy with XP on my other desktop, and I am not gonna dual boot ubuntu on my new dell mini till I upgrade the 8 gig ssd. Any and all help will be appreciated.
