Hi!
I'm a real newcommer to Ubuntu and Linux in general, so please forgive my stupid questions!
I'm thinking of installing Ubuntu on an old Toshiba laptop, just to learn about it. The laptop is a Satellite 440 CDX. with a memory upgrade to 80+ MB and a Pentium 133 processor.
At the minute I'm trying to do a CD boot off the Live CD - about 15 minutes so far and I've just reached the Ubuntu screen! Do I have any chance of working with this? Will it work if I install it properly on the disk?
Any and all advice will be received with thanks!

Looked at that, but that is for people who know what they are doing!

I just posted a reply there -
"Forgive the suggestion, but for us poor slobs that do NOT understand Linux and do NOT program, and still would like to run Ubuntu LITE - is there a version (or can someone make one) that will just install automatically? Like the Ubuntu distributions? Can someone make one single file that can be downloaded, burned to a CD and then booted from?"

hope to hear from someone

Hmm....if the Ubuntu lite guide is too hard, I suggest

Damn Small Linux

I posted a simplified version of the Ubuntu Lite guide in the other thread.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

to get a minimalist install, you would need to type in server when it first starts.

That would get to a command line where you would have to type in what else you need. I suggest fluxbox for a window manager instead of Gnome. Not sure what else you would need. Why not do a search under server or Install+server.
Also don't forget about Ubuntu wiki.

I tried damn small linux on an old laptop that has specs close to those. It worked pretty nicely.
