Hi

Just downloaded a DVD iso from cdimage.ubuntu.com, but I can't fint the md5 hash'es for it on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuHashes.I only find them in the md5sums.txt file in the download directory. Are they located on a differen't place? Is this correct. I guess this is valid, official ubuntu DVD's.

When you boot using the disk you'll have an option to check the disk for defects.

OK, I didn't now that. But, are the hashes available any place on the ubuntu webpages? If not, how can I tell that the ISO hasen't been tampered with, and that the postet hashes are the correct ones?

Where exactly did you download it from? You mention it's a DVD and from cdimage.ubuntu.com. The only DVD I can find is the Jaunty beta DVD here (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/dvd/current/). Either way the directories with the isos all contain a file called MD5SUMS. In it is the hashes.

Hi

I found the Iso images here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/8.10/release/And yes, there are som MD5Sums in this directory, but I can not find these on the hashes page with the others. At least in theory these can be altered, so that is way I prefer getting the hashes from a secondary source. Does that sound paranoid?

According to the Ubuntu Community Docs page (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VerifyIsoHowto), that's the official page for dvd md5sums

i.e.
