Time Warner's broadband cap plan may result in federal legislation aimed at unfair tiered price structures from Internet providers. Angered over Time Warner's pricing plans, U.S. Rep. Eric Massa of New York says that's exactly what he has in mind, promising a bill to curb tiers, particularly in areas where a broadband provider owns a monopoly on service.

If Time Warner thought that its hastily revised broadband cap plan to include an unlimited usage tier would appease U.S. Rep. Eric Massa, the cable broadband provider was wrong. Massa, who represents a New York district where Time Warner is planning to roll out its cap plan, said April 10 he is drafting legislation to prohibit unfair tiered price structures from Internet providers.

Glad to see this issue is getting broader exposure. I'm in one of the affected cities.

TWC's COO came out with a message throug Twitter (of all places) on Thursday with new cap ideas. The lowest one being 1GB/mo at $15 with $2 for every GB over. The highest tier was 100 GB for something like $75...All overage fees are capped at $75. So, in essence one can now get unlimited service for $150/mo...only problem is most people are paying $40-$60/mo now for that. Why should we pay a lot more for the same service now?

Good website with tons of info: www.stopthecap.com :)

Good. I really hope their whole tiered caps idea gets thrown in the trash.

Where the goveremt is involved, all I've got to say is... don't count your chickens until they hatch.

Don't get me wrong; I'd be thrilled to see geo-monop's get slapped around. Be about d***ed time. But I'm waiting for TW to buy this guy off.

It worked! Rep Massa's ire, along with Sen. Chuck Schumer who got invloved just a few days ago, TWC has backed down and the company will not go forward with their capping plans, for now. Not until us customers have been 'educated.' Here's their press release: http://a.longreply.com/120178

Great news! However it sounds like this is temporary and they will attempt to bing back their plans sometime in the future :(
