I was looking through some Gnome themes and the SlicknesS screen shot has a sidebar, somewhat like the sidebar in the 6th version of that Other, Closed Source, OS's I was wondering how i could get that.

The data on the right side of the screen is displayed via Conky (http://conky.sourceforge.net/).

It isn't a sidebar per se, but a system monitor tool.

For that you need to install screenlets application.

Run this command........

sudo apt-get install screenlets

Then run this application menu--->accessories--->screenlets

From screenlets menu, select 'sysmonitor'. And you are all set! :)
