I can't boot the Desktop Edition in Graphical Mode

Is there any way to boot Ubuntu 8.10 in graphical mode?
Even the grub showing in text mode... Is this true for Ubuntu?

It's normal for the grub menu to show up in text mode.
Which "edition" of 8.10 did you install - the "desktop" edition or the "server" edition? The server edition doesn't install a graphical interface, but it is possible to add one.

thanks a lot for your time..

it's my first time in ubuntu as i been around with Fedoa and Opensolaris..

So I expect the same ideas with ubuntu in terms of starting up...

Anyway before I fired up my installation, I did make sure that LiveCD will assure me of everything in terms of normal boot up. But after sometimes of thinking " hey!, where is the slice for ubuntu in menu.lst" I did figure it out with opensolaris grub.
But after I gone into ubuntu grub, I ended up like OUTRAK after choosing the first kernel which is I think is for normal boot.
The "user@somewhere login" console appear in black & white. and I assume that I am in the terminal - "tty1" mode.

Can you explain why is this happening?..
