I recently installed Ubuntu 8.10 as a triple boot with XP and Ubuntu 7.10.
I used the option to install it inside of windows and it worked for a while just fine. Now when I try to boot 8.10, it comes up with a black screen with white text (looks a lot like a terminal or DOS page or something.... It doesn't show errors or anything, but it goes through a list "checking net work connection. ok. checking hard disks. ok." stuff like that
then it asks me to log on (still in this black/white screent) and I do and it stays in that screen with nothing but "brent-desktop//" or something (the thing it shows in a terminal window) and I don't know how to get it back to the regular log in screen.
help?
