Hi

Check out the program FavouritesTown at http://www.favoritestown.com/

It is a flash program and a good alternative for a desktop.
It would be TOO GOOD if somehow it can be ported to ubuntu or make a similar program for ubuntu.

You could also see my windows xp screenshot at

This idea is also on ubuntu brainstorm

http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/19133/image/1/ (http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/19133/)

If you like the idea please promote it.:p

Hi
I don't like this idea very much, because IMO it's a step back, when we try to organise stored files, the way we do this in real life (not folders, but e.g. the videos in a shelf.
But I didn't vote, as there is no reason to vote against any alternative for anything. If somebody likes it s/he should use it.

Well I liked your Screenshot of Win XP but its not for me , because as zhocchao said , its probably a step back..When i say this , i remembered the Scene of Jurassic Park ( I as far as i remember) , the girl exclaims " I know this , its UNix" and Voila , there's this whole animated park and stuff ;)

Probably a nice idea for the junkies and yes it SHOULD be ported to Ubuntu or Linux in general..

This looks like Microsoft Bob..
Anyway this can be done (maybe) by getting the right wallpaper (wallpaper with a room background), then get some "realistic" icon set, scale, place it in the correct places, voila!
Maybe like http://lifehacker.com/5159056/the-sleek-wood-desktop.
It's on Windows 7 anyway, but you can do that too on Ubuntu by getting the right iconset.
Another one: http://lifehacker.com/5162764/the-desktop-within-a-desktop .
Widgets can be done using conky, right?

OK it is similar but it is just not a room. Check the website.
