Installing Ubuntu 32-bit on a 64-bit Processor

I apoligize if this question already exists, however I couldn't seem to find it.

I have an AMD Dual Core 64-bit processor and wish to install the 32-bit version of Ubuntu on it so I tried using the i386 version but couldn't get into the installer at all. Which version am I supposed to be using?

I tried 2 discs, one was Ubuntu 8.10 and the other was 9.04 Beta. One displayed an error as soon as it booted to the cd and the other just dropped me to the root shell as soon as a started the live cd.

Check the liveCD integrity first, may be it damaged!

Press F6 on liveCD menu and remove quiet & splash.

This should at least help you know where the liveCD gets stuck on your system.

And see that you have minimum requirements to use the liveCD

These are all general answers until we know the error there can be no solution & 386 version works perfectly on 64bit processor. I myself use it!
