I am using 8.10 but i am considering going back to 8.04 cause i have heard it can be more stable for some applications i would use. I have seen on this site that a lot of people have been unwilling to upgrade to 8.10. So what version do you use and why?

8.10 because it's the latest and is stable. Going to install 9.04 as soon as it's released the final version. ;)

I'm using 8.10. I had decided to go with the long term support solution (8.04) but I could not get my nvidea driver problem resolved (I wanted higher resolution). 8.10 worked right out the gate by recognizing the Nvidea card and allowing for the settings I wanted.

I'm currently using 9.04 because it is pretty fast and its close to release so i figured it is safe to upgrade and beat the rush.

8.10 on my lappy because I couldn't get 8.04 to work correctly. (Video related)

8.04 on the Vaio because of stability and LTS support.

9.04 on the "test" PC just to try it out. Not sure if I'll be upgrading or not. I will however install the released version on this PC.

8.04 64bit.
I want stability and limited numbers of releases coming through. I used to run 8.10 and had a few issues with some updates braking things. I will upgrade perhaps to 9.04 when appropriate, I dont plan on sticking with LTS versions for ever.

8.04, because to me 8.10 was like an xp user "upgrading" to vista.

Unbuntu 8.4 and Xbuntu
I'll wait for later versions to fully mature before moving forward.
Xbuntu gives me a faster interface, I switch to Ubuntu via the
logon options when I need more bell and whistles.

What do you mean?

i found it naff. Didnt really see why it warranted a new release. And a lot of the people i spoke to said they'd rather stick with 8.04 rather than 8.10 as it had less problems and they were quite happy with it. A lot like xp users when "upgrading" to vista.

8.04 in one partition and 9.04 in the other. 8.04 does everything wanted it to do (M$ office 2007). 9.04 because i wanted to have a taste of ext4 and I am really liking it (faster boot, just seems to be smoother)

I currently am using Ubuntu 8.10 32-bit. I am going to try both Ubuntu and Kubuntu 9.04 AMD64 when they are released, and which one I like better I will use from now on. (Final end to the GNOME vs KDE internal debate that rages within me).

I use 8.04 on all my machines but one. Hardy is stable and supports all my hardware.

I am not a distro hopper nor do not need to have the latest and greatest.

9.04 because there were like 10 programs of mine that had updated versions in the Jaunty repository that I really wanted (due to features).

Yeah I replaced that sticker as well. On my friends Xbox he covered up Microsoft everywhere it was with Ubuntu stickers. (His xbox was one of those ones that ruins CDs)

9.04 because it supports my hardware very well. Not to mention it boots quick, is fast, and despite being a beta is quite stable for me.

Where the hell do you find your current intalled version number? In windows, it's on the About window. Nothing so simple in Ubuntu. Must I get this from terminal only? (And what comm is that?)

Using 8.10 because it is nice and stable but I will upgrade to 9.04 as soon as it is out because I've heard that there are a lot of performance improvements.

cat /etc/lsb-release
or
lsb_release -awill show your current version in the terminal.

I'm currently using Jaunty as I get bored very easily, but the distro's change daily, again due to boredom! More often than not, I use arch.

Currently using 8.10 32-bit on two machines, and 64-bit on another.
