i want to upgrade to ext4 to boot faster and possibly run more efficiently. i am running ubuntu 9.04 beta. so is it simple enough that i just boot into ubuntu live cd, copy the whole "filesystem" drive to my attached 30gb drive, format then copy everything back and still have all my files and settings?

there's a utility to do it, not for EXT3/4 things, but Permisions and stuff...

EXT4 can be used like a EXT3, EXT4 can be mounted like EXT3, etc...

Try this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1118205. It explains what the differences are and exactly how to do it.
