Has driver support improved?

6 months ago I used Ubuntu. The major complaint I had with the OS was the audio/video driver support.

The display drivers would often hiccup (nvidia) and would need to continually be re-enabled or downloaded/installed.

The audio was very staticy. (I use HD surround sound audio)

Has it improved since? If so I would happily return to Ubuntu.

I would suggest you try the livecd to see if all your hardware works properly.

Many display driver and sound driver problems have been figured out. I suggest you search the forums for your specific hardware to find out if your hardware is among them.
