View Full Version : [ubuntu] Printers, What Works?

I have successfully installed 8.10 on a ThinkPad. All is well except printing. I have tried each of my three printers (a Dell A20, a Cannon MX310, and a Dell 966) to no avail. They all default to some generic driver and attempting to print does nothing.

I could make no sense of the CUPS site and I see that there may be a solution if I am willing to download and install the alien utility to convert a RedHat driver to Ubuntu but I'm not sure I can afford to spend any more time running down dead ends.

My basic question is: can I assume that there is no Ubuntu driver for any of my three printers and if not and I have to buy a new printer to work with Ubuntu-- what printer do I buy?

Enlightenment appreciated.

I have no experience with Dell or Canon printers, and I suspect they may offer only Windows drivers. I do know that HP and Brother do offer Linux drivers, and they work out of the box on my Linux machines.

The MP 150 driver worked!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
