View Full Version : [ubuntu] Artifacts on screen from cursor (Rage Mobility)

April 8th, 2009, 01:07 AM
I have an older Vaio laptop (pcg-fxa59) with an 8mb Rage Mobility chipset. I'm pretty sure the problem I'm having is due to the video drivers, but I'm hoping someone else might have a solution.

Whenever there's a change in the cursor style (pointer to I-beam, et.al.) a small series of artifacts will appear and remain on the desktop on top of every window. They won't go away until I either start playing a video or change the refresh rate/resolution, at which point they return as soon as I do something that changes the cursor. They appear as a thin (1px) line that is the width of the cursor bitmap (I'm guessing).

I didn't have this problem when I was using XP on this laptop, but I decided to slick it because it ran just too damn slow. I've alternated between crunchbang and ubuntu on this system and both give me the same artifacts. Any suggestions will be gladly attempted.
