Let's all imagine real quick, that I mount 9 .iso images on startup.
That takes up a good amount of space on the desktop (with the default configuration).

I've found that I can disable the showing of all volumes on the desktop with gconf. But I'd kinda still like any external drives to appear when plugged in. Is there a way to force gnome to hide those 9 and none other?

What are the mountpoints for those ISO images? You can mount them to /mnt and they won't appear on your desktop.

It was set to /media before, and there's no changes when I set it to /mnt, they still appear in Places and on the Desktop :)
