i have been updating nvidia drivers from the prereleases at avenard, but updated to beta 185.13 from launchpad with no problems. just updated including a new kernel, 2.6.27.11.14, and everything runs after a reboot.
video playback is rotten but i have a celeron 420 cpu so i will wait for a new vdpau compatible vlc and mplayer before i complain about video playback.
